the editor-in-chief of the washington examiner joins us now. let s talk about the debt ceiling for just a moment. we want to get into some presidential politics, too. talk about the debt ceiling. any winners here, hugo? it is pretty clear that the republicans have been winning this one all the way along. that would be a first. in the past debt ceiling negotiations or fights, it has always been possible for the democrats to depict the republican successfully as just digging in their heels and being the party of no et cetera. what kevin mccarthy did in the house republicans did this time was past legislation which became the only legislation that raised the debt ceiling from the 31.4 million. it became the basis for negotiation. it is very clear that joe biden, he even sort of conceded it in the remarks that he just made. no one gets everything that they want. kevin mccarthy said that they would not write from the start. what joe biden did right at the beginning was to say we are not n

getting even more diverse. that s the bottom line from the new u.s. census. data from 2020 shows the nation of immigrants is now more diverse and more multi racial than ever before. cnn s tom foreman has a closer look at the numbers. reporter: look at this whopping number, 331.4 million people in the u.s. that s what the census bureau came up with. that s growth. the slowest growth in about a century, they say, but still it is growth. and look at the change we ve seen. yes, in most places in this country, non-hispanic white people are the majority or the plurality by a solid margin in many, many places, but there is real movement among different groups. look at the growth among hispanic or latino communities. that s quite large. so much so that they are now the largest ethnic group in california and new mexico and making real strides in places like texas too. here s something that was a bit
