I have known Benjamin Netanyahu for a very long time and while we have disagreed on many occasions, i will always respect his extraordinary bravery for israel on the battlefield of the younger man and i believe in his heart he has his highest priority as the security of israel. However, i also believe Prime Minister netanyahu has lost his way. Senior israeli figures including the ambassador to the us, michael herzog, and mr netanyahus chief political rival, benny gantz criticised mr schumer s intervention, calling it unhelpful, counterproductive and unacceptable. Mr schumer s comments come as the Biden Administration continues to pressure mr netanyahu not to launch a Ground Offensive on gazas southernmost city, rafah, something the white house says is a red line. But talking to troops on thursday, mr netanyahu sounded undaunted. Welcome to bbc news broadcasting to viewers in the uk and Around The World. We begin in cyprus, where a Spanish Charity ship carrying vital supplies is preparing to set sailfor gaza along a new maritime aid corridor. Its been loaded with around 200 tonnes of food and medical supplies. But, without a working port, its not clear yet where the ship will actually dock or how its cargo will be distributed inside gaza. 0ur middle east correspondent Quentin Somerville is in the Port City Of Larnaca in cyprus and sent us this report. Its a drop in the ocean of gazas need, but this is the first direct aid shipment by sea about to leave cyprus. The spanish ship The Open Arms, seen here in larnaca port, getting ready to set sail. Thank you. Thank you for having me. Its a pleasure to have you on the programme. Ambassador, do you have any hope left that talks can achieve a stop or at least a suspension to the war in gaza . I still have hope. And thats what drives me to work harder with all of my colleagues, to succeed in putting an end to this war, to have a ceasefire, and to be able to send humanitarian assistance up to the needs of the people in the gaza strip and to prevent a forced Mass Transfer to egypt. I mean, nobody would doubt that, for the 2 million and more palestinians who live in gaza and of course the 100 or so hostages who are being held in the tunnels in gaza as well, every day is a day of extreme suffering. The problem is, if one looks at the talks and what is being said about the talks, there appears to be very little ground for optimism. For example, the israelis say no way will they even countenance a stop to their Military Operations until hamas provides a full list of those hostages who are
