NEWS 1 13 21: 2 More C19 Deaths in Woodbury County, Impeachment, State of the State, Lottery & More

Credit CDC Woodbury County added two more COVID-related deaths in the past 24-hours for a total of 175 since the start of the pandemic. There were 46 additional cases. Siouxland District Health says mask up, keep your distance, wash your hands, stay home when sick, and avoid nonessential gatherings. The Iowa Department of Public Health reported 10 more Iowans have died of the disease for more than 4,200 (4,232) and almost 1,900 additional cases for a total of 300,000 positive test results. More than 50 Iowa counties have a 14-day average positivity rate above 15%, a level indicating significant community virus spread. That’s includes Woodbury County with 15.4%. Iowa’s representatives in the U.S. House split along party lines on the vote to impeach President Trump for the second time. The delegation’s lone Democrat, Congresswoman Cindy Axne, voted to impeach, saying Trump incited the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and cannot remain in office.

SPM NEWS 1.8.21 - 4:32PM The Sioux City Community School District s weekly coronavirus report shows only one staff member and no students testing positive the first week after winter break. Two-hundred are out on quarantine. That s down from about 500 at the end of December.  Class resumed on Monday and students have at least one more week of hybrid learning.  That’s where they go to school two-days a week.  An update surrounding the learning plan is expected to come Monday night with the next school board meeting. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds ended limits on sports and recreational gatherings today, on a day when the state recorded 59 additional deaths caused by the coronavirus, including one more death in Woodbury County and 50 new cases.  There have been 172 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
