so that was john s office. constituents provided a giant $275 billion check to a guy dressed as mr. moneybags. the transfer of money to the wealthiest americans. mr. moneybags and the $275 billion check then marched through the parking lot and into congressman garrett s office lobby. congressman garrett s staffer would not actually take the check. they wanted to deliver it to him. he wouldn t take the check but he did take a picture of the check and said he would forward along the snapshot to his box. check your inbox. rob port mman s office had a ha tile handling the numbers of people coming into that office to tell senator portman to vote no. his staff would only let in a few of his constituents at a time so they patiently queued up
party s tax bill because of the constituents entertaining people politely at red lights but at least they will let him know what they think of him and what they think of this bill. so that was john garrett s office. constituents provided a giant $275 billion check to a guy dressed as mr. moneybags. the transfer of money to the wealthiest americans. mr. moneybags and the $275 billion check then marched through the parking lot and into congressman garrett s office lobby. congressman garrett s staffer would not actually take the check. they wanted to deliver it to him. he wouldn t take the check but he did take a picture of the check and said he would forward along the snapshot to his box. check your inbox. rob portman s office had a hard time handling the numbers of people coming into that office to tell senator portman to vote no.
is not a health care bill. this is a pain and suffering bill. millions of people will lose their health insurance and therefore not be able to get the care that they need. millions more will have their premiums go up, their deductibles go up. and so they also will not be able to get the care that they need. and so our patients are going to suffer. and medicaid as we know it will be decimated. at the same time, this is a massive give away to the richest people in this country and to big corporations. we re talking about the richest 400 families in this country getting an annual $7 million tax break. $275 billion tax break going to the top 2% earners in this country and hundreds of billions more going to health insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies. so that s why we are very much opposed to this horrible bill. and we urge the senate to reject it but also it s fairly important to not just say that we re going to defend the status quo with the affordable care act. we have to now
country. 200 [ applause ] at a time at a time when we have a massive level of incoming wealth and equality, when the rich are getting much richer, while the middle class shrinks, this legislation would provide over a ten-year period, $275 billion in tax breaks to the top 2%. so when people tell you, oh, we don t have enough money to invest in mcdowell county or rebuild our infrastructure but we do have 275 billion to give to the top 2% who are already doing phenomenonly well, when they tell you they don t have the money, don t believe them. [ applause ] mary ann, i want to talk to you because you had a very personal experience with the affordable care act and your son. my son had a liver transplant when he was 20 and during that
health care that you need. that is part of what the republican program is. bottom line is, though, that our goal should be to provide health insurance to all people, not to throw 24 million people off of health insurance, raise rates for older people, de-fund planned parenthood, decimate medicaid. decimate medicaid and take people getting opiate treatments off the treatment they re currently getting. this is not, jake we should be clear about this. this is not health care reform. you don t throw 24 million people off of health care and call it reform. this is tax reform providing $275 billion in tax breaks for the top 2% at a time of massive income wealth and inequality. it is a grotesque and ugly plan. let me conclude by saying this. if you are old and you have no health insurance, you re 55, 60 years of age, and you have no health insurance and you re sick, you will die.
