it s absolute nonsense. we wrote a 26.12 page response to that magazine article, which has been completely dismissed by the editor-in-chief and just probably the most significant, easiest thing i could point out is that there is all anonymous sources in there and somebody says that i changed the policy on how we record murders that occur on the highways and in the city of chicago. and it s patently false. i can show you the policy change that was created in 1985 when i was a police officer of new york city. so that just really speaks to the credibility of it. i m dismissing it. i hope everybody else dismisses it because i m confident that we re going to stand up to any institu scrutiny. ultimately, we have a national standard that every police department in the country uses and it s not maleable.
i said okay. i didn t want to join the army anyway. thank you very much and i left. [ laughter ] but time was running out. a cadet had to enter pilot training before turning 26 1/2. olga was only months away. so i knew that if i didn t make it then, that was it. you were done? i was done. finally, she met a tech sergeant in the air force who was willing to help her fill out the paperwork. even though he had never recruited a commissioned officer before. i said not to worry. i got up. this is exactly what you need to do for me. you guided him? i guided him. i wasn t going to let anybody just tell me, i m sorry, you didn t make it. at last it came down to filling out her top three career choices for entering the air force. i said, i want to be a pilot. that s all i want to do. i m not going to take second anything. and the tech sergeant said, well, you need to fill out other two slots. i said, not really. if you re going to fill them
tell our military commanders how to execute a tactical operation, we have made some big mistakes in our past, and we don t need to repeat those mistakes. so i share some of those concerns that might have constituents expressed to me. bill: one more point here, sir, what evidence have you seen? have you seen the videos that are now circulateing? i ve seen what everybody else has seen on television but i was not at the senate hearing so i have not seen the specific videos that you re talking about but i have heard about them, and you know, i don t need to see them. i ve seen videos during my 26 1/2 years in the air force. i know it is devastating to watch people that have been a attacked with chemical weapons and it is certainly something the world needs to respond to. bill: thank you. bill johnson, republican in ohio. back in washington d.c. with us today. thank you, sir. thank you, bill. martha: we were talking about the interview over assad gave over the weekend and he said,
yeah. reporter: this cabbie was. our cnn courier wasn t. i mean, middle of the night, i m not impressed. do that in the regular day, i ll be impressed. reporter: this is called outlaw racing, along the 26 1/2-mile route around manhattan, the driver ran one red light, stopped at six. he added the music of afrojack and posted his record 24-minute drive. his average speed worked out to around 66 miles per hour. you know, he s lucky the cops didn t stop him. reporter: but afroduck s luck ran out. days after the video went viral, 30-year-old christopher tang was arrested and charged with speeding, reckless driving, unsafe lane changes, following too closely and reckless endangerment. i ll comment later. reporter: afroduck s wings have been clipped. police confiscated his 2006 bmw z-4. what tools did they have to catch him after the fact? we now have a license plate.
bill, i spent 26 1/2 years in the air force and i have been a commander. i know what it means and i know the burden that it places on an authority to put our troops in harm s way. so i go into this very, very cautiously because our young people are a vital resource and they are too valuable to throw out there over some arbitrary red line statement. bill: based on what you know today, if you are given more direct evidence that assad used chemical weapons, would the president get your support then? unfortunately it goes back to those three questions. what is america s national security interests and what are the risks to america at play. bill: fun it s proven beyond a reasonable doubt that assad gassed his own people?
