Arguably the boldest Ford Motor Company product in a long time, the Maverick is expected to attract new customers to the Dearborn-based automaker for several reasons. One of them is the price, rumored at $20k excluding destination for the base powerplant and FWD. 23 photos
Spied time and again, the Maverick is going to enter production at the Hermosillo plant in July 2021 as a 2022 model, according to Automotive News. The cited publication is pretty much on point with previous reports, which means that we don’t need to be skeptical about the alleged timeframe.
It’s also worth noting that initial production kicked off last month, according to a sales report from the Blue Oval. In all likelihood, the Ford Motor Company is putting the finishing touches to the assembly line in Hermosillo, Mexico, where the Bronco Sport crossover is produced as well.

We’ve heard plenty of rumors about the Maverick in the past years, and the latest one appears to be just as plausible as every single one of them. Speaking to Ford Authority, sources familiar with product plans have confirmed that a hybrid powertrain option is coming to the truck. 31 photos
Why is it plausible, you ask? Because the Maverick shares the C2 vehicle architecture with the Escape compact crossover, which is available as a hybrid and plug-in hybrid. These said, let’s crunch through a few numbers.
Priced from $28,265 excluding destination charge, the Escape Hybrid combines a briefcase-sized battery with two electric motors and a 2.5-liter engine. This powertrain is good for 198 horsepower, 155 pound-feet (210 Nm) of torque, and up to 44 miles per gallon (5.3 liters per 100 kilometers) on the combined cycle, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Hyundai is putting the finishing touches on the Santa Cruz, a crossover-styled pickup to be manufactured in the United States for North America. Ford, by comparison, already makes the Maverick in Mexico at Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly alongside the Bronco Sport. 31 photos
According to a sales report for February 2021, the Blue Oval manufactured no fewer than 21 examples of the breed. Already snapped on public roads and the assembly line, the Maverick has been masterfully rendered by our friends at Kolesa based on existing spy photos.
Beefy would be an excellent word to describe the front fascia, which features an upright design and C-shaped headlights with L-shaped LED signature lighting. Horizontal chrome trim connects the headlights to the automaker’s badge, and the hood is flat, as most of us would expect from a pickup truck.
Just like the mid-size Explorer and full-size Expedition, the Maverick may receive light off-road goodies. Timberline is the adventure-oriented model's name, but don’t get your hopes up for proper capability.
We live in the era of 5G networks, and as you’re well aware, everyone has a smartphone in their pocket and a data plan. This translates to photos getting on the Internet at the tap of the touchscreen, and this poses a problem for automakers. Ford, for instance, has recently sent a memo to original equipment manufacturers over a series of leaked photographs.
