As far as safety recalls are concerned, 2021 definitely isn’t the best year for Porsche in the United States. Loose suspension components, missing heating elements, 12V battery charge loss, and cracks in the bore of the EA825 twin-turbo V8 come to mind, but the list of woes doesn’t end here.
Porsche developed the new Taycan to be as much of a Porsche as possible, right down to the nomenclature. The most potent specification is called Turbo S, and with the overboost function turned on, it belts out 750 horsepower (761 PS) and 774 pound-feet (1,050 Nm) of torque.

AutoTopNL had the opportunity to check out the rear-driven Taycan on a derestricted zone of the Autobahn, and the way this car picks up speed beggars belief for an entry-level variant. Accelerating from zero to 100 kilometers (62 miles per hour) exceeds the automaker’s estimate, and the speedo indicates up to 239 kilometers per hour (148.5 miles per hour).

Until now, there was always something after the Taycan branding keeping company to Porsche’s first EV. Now, the Turbo S, Turbo, and 4S models are being joined by a fourth version. Previously available only in China, the new variant is simply named Taycan and comes with rear-wheel drive and the lowest MSRP to date, undercutting the 4S by a considerable amount. 12 photos
In the United States, the pricing nomenclature for the Taycan is a clear example of jumping scale. The Taycan 4S goes from at least $103,800, followed by the Taycan Turbo at almost $151k, and the flagship Taycan Turbo S that kicks off at $185k.
