we begin with the budget in the uk that takes place on wednesday with all eyes on chancellor rishi sunak it will be closely watched due to the massive economic effects of covid. it will also be the first indication of how the uk will pay for the crisis. there is much speculation out there as to what will be in this budget and the chancellor has hinted at some of his give aways such as five billion pounds to help high street businesses. when it comes to balancing the books one way of raising money would be to raise corporation tax in 2019/2020 the uk collected 52 billion pounds from the tax. but the chancellor says he is keen to keep britain s business taxes competitive with other g7 countries. some argue though there is some wiggle room for the chancellor with the uk s corportation tax rate currently at 19% whereas france s rate for 2020 was 28% and germany was 30%. so what will be in that famous red budget box? ruth greg is senior uk economist with capital economics. goo
it is a done deal, billionaire elon musk completing his $44 billion takeover of twitter. i m brianna keilar with alex marquardt this morning. good morning. good morning. john berman is off. and according to sources, musk immediately fired twitter s ceo, the chief financial officer and the company s top lawyer. musk first agreed to buy the company in april, then he spent months trying to get out of the deal, which was finalized just before today s deadline. musk attempted to reassure advertisers, posting an open letter on twitter why he bought the platform, saying, quote, there is currently great danger that social media will fracture into far right and far left wings that will splinter our society and overnight he tweeted the bird is free. reporter: there is a lot of uncertainty at twitter. employees aren t sure what to expect after musk came in, took control and fired the top executives. unclear who the top team is, maybe employees will learn more at an all-hands mee
