Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi granted amnesty to Ahmed Douma, a key figure in the pro-democracy movement that deposed ex-President Hosni Mubarak in 2011. Douma was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in 2019 for rioting and assaulting security forces. Other prominent activists in Egypt like Douma have been jailed during Mubarak s regime, Mohamed Mursi s rule, and al-Sisi s government.
