providers in a position where we have to choose between our duty to patients or potentially violating this law that dates back to 1931, and potentially being prosecuted. let s talk about the bigger issue here. the politicization of a medical procedure. is this the kind of testimony you expected to give as a doctor? all of this has been quite unexpected this year. i did not. the last last two years for public health has been a whirlwind of covid-19 and dealing with monkeypox and having to deal a ruling back of our abortion rights, like michigan, it was very surprising. for those who are not familiar with michigan s trigger law, it actually criminalizes inducing a miscarriage. can you talk us through how that would limit reproductive health care? it would not only reproductive health care but it
abortion clinics reside, do not enforce this 1931 law. but again, it s a uncertainty. it s not only putting women at risk but public health at risk. but it s putting health care providers at risk. you lay on top of that that more and more surrounding states have been enacting abortion restrictions. where does that mean for michigan providers? we know that there are abortion restrictions in places like ohio, for example. there were already women from ohio traveling to michigan for abortions or for other types of procedures, but would be criminalized in ohio. so now, it layers and certainty for those women as well. they were already having to go out of state to receive the procedures they needed and it layers additional complexity on top of that. this will impact the most vulnerable. this will impact black and brown women the most. it will impact women who are living below the poverty line, women who don t have access to transportation, women who cannot take time off work to

1931 law, and i think individual county prosecutors with political motivations and the way they went about this they really could not have prosecuted anyone for aiding and abetting a woman in procuring a miscarriage and that goes back to the original wording of the 1931 law, which is problematic in so many ways, because this is simply not terminology that we use in the medical system. how are abortion clinics dealing with the legal uncertainty michigan? i think that it has really been a rollercoaster ride. it s been a rollercoaster ride for health care providers as well as four women expecting to receive procedures. there were a few days where procedures were canceled across the board. now that we have this temporary restraining order in place, abortions are legal in the sense that the 13 county prosecutors in which our
