finance violations is over. i m bill hemmer live in new york city. how are you doing? heather: i m heather childress in for sandra smith. the investigation centered on pay-outs to two women claiming they had affairs with the president in the past. cohen says that he made those payments at the direction of then candidate trump during the 2016 campaign and as bill said any minute now the key documents in the case will be made public. bill: rick leventhal joins us with more trying to figure out what we might learn or not. 900 pages of search warrant materials were released earlier this year. heavily redacted. 18 1/2 pages under the heading illegal campaign contribution scheme completely blacked out. now we get to see what we couldn t see before. the documents include cohen s emails, cell phone and bank records. financial loans and those payoffs to two women who claimed affairs with president trump years before he ran for
charged, whether that s president trump, donald trump, jr., or others involved in that remains to be seen. so, barbara, we are hearing of those redacted pages i don t understand this technically that we could learn more about that in the next 60 days. do you know what that s about and why that would be the case? well, information wants to be free. the rules presume that information will be free and it will be transparency. there are some exceptions to that. things like grand jury materials, or matters currently under investigation, and so the judge had the prosecution submit to him a proposed redaction order which he then approved. and he said, i m going to permit you to withhold and redact these 18 1/2 pages for now. ultimately it has to be disclosed to the world, but because these matters remain under investigation and disclosure of this information would jeopardize the investigation into individuals you are still investigating, i m going to keep it under seal. but i m only g
variables. the magnitude of charges from robert mueller might be more severe. if president trump, for example, did work with russia to attack the election, that would be of such a magnitude that many people would agree it is at least a consideration for impeachment. but i think while the magnitude of charges out of the southern district of new york might be lesser, i think the likelihood of charges coming out of there may be greater when you look at the fact we already have documents filed naming him as individual one, someone who won the 2016 presidential election, i think any of us can infer that refers to president trump. and michael cohen, when he made these campaign finance violations did so at the direction and in coordination with individual one, i think that suggests quite a built of activity that could pose risk for president trump. we know that 18 1/2 pages of the search warrant documents that were unsealed the other day were redacted relating to the illegal campaign contribu
president s inaugural committee and all of the suspicion ties to russians is still very actively cooperating in one or more federal investigations. and we do know 18 1/2 pages of material related to the illegal campaign contribution scheme still needed to be redacted from documents in cohen s case to protect ongoing investigations. so it remains very likely that pr president trump and his children are nowhere near out of the woods legally speaking, no matter what mueller s investigation may yield. frank and the table are all back. this seems like, what was this, the season of wishful thinking. oh, it s all make believe, as people get trotted off to their sentencing hearings. unfortunately donald trump is a master manipulator of perceptions. he gaslights this country repeatedly. he s pathologically dishonest. so he takes issues and will represent them the way he sees fit and unfortunately, there are too many people who just take what he says as whole truth and as gospel. that is why i
