you about this new report from house democrats alleging trump received $7.8 million from foreign governments while in the white house. trump has assets all across the world, right? he stepped back from his businesses while he was in the white house, but was it ever really clear cut as far as a separation? well, he did step back from it, but he still owned it all, and i think now we re seeing this story i got to say really took me back to 2015 and 16 and 17 because one of the big concerns when he came into office, rightly, was how was this going to be managed? he s got all these properties and he has got ties to foreign governments, and it was a big issue, and his total he doesn t own it anymore but the old post office and hotel on pennsylvania avenue, you know, became a very popular spot for a number of people who wanted to curry favor with the president, including now we re seeing some granular detail about foreign governments that stayed there.
democrats on the oversight committee released a report yesterday which documented how trump businesses took in more than $7 million from entities connected to foreign countries while he was president. you issued that report, like i say, there was documentation to prove it. what is congress now going to do with it? what are the republicans who run the committee doing with this new information? yes, it s 150-page report with 750 footnotes and as far as i know nobody has questioned a single fact that s in there. it s based on a seven-year investigation that began with my late beloved colleague aisle gentleman cummings who originally blew the whistle about this when donald trump entered office and said he would not divest himself from more than 500 businesses and would not establish a rule that he wouldn t take money from foreign governments. so the white house was open for business and we ve been able now to document with the receipts $7.8 million that came in from
a swedish entity. here we have trump just pocketing millions of dollars directly from some of the most corrupt regimes on earth that were looking for particular things, and he continues just to go on his merry way. he should give that $7.8 million back immediately to the u.s. government, to the u.s. treasury. then the republicans should support us from passing very strict laws that will prevent any president from ever doing anything like this again. because what we re talking about is national security. if your read our report, you will look at places where the money coming in from these foreign governments definitely influenced what donald trump was doing with respect to china and some of the corruption taking place there, with respect to saudi arabia. remember, he helped cover up the assassination of jamal khashoggi, the washington post journalist who was assassinated. all of these things taking place
