very much beholden to how they would like to see the world operate and somewhere probably in the middle is where we actually are, not so far to either end of the spectrum. it s important that we continue to encourage community members to understand the realities that people are facing and understand that we do need more support in order to manage this, but it shouldn t always be a punitive effort to make people be deterred and not come at all. there has to be a way to have a humane solution. thanks so much. really appreciate it. thank you. the white house says president biden called kevin mccarthy on saturday to congratulate him on becoming speaker of the house, but mccarthy s win came after four days, i will remind you, of embarrassing losses before he got the majority he needed on that 15th ballot. those six present votes were the so-called never kevin caucus who
frustration. a number of people saying they re poed. there was a real whip effort on boebert and gaetz. they could not get them to come off present. there was no moving the other four. and now there is a question whether they have the votes to adjourn. to chad s point, you know, we should point out that there is some credit to be given for democrats holding the line almost every single ballot. there was only one ballot where they got 211 and that s because representative trone from maryland had surgery but they came back the next ballot and they ve been 212 every single ballot. and there have been a couple of others where mccarthy took the lead. but you have to get the majority of all of the numbers in the house. now the question is, if they don t adjourn, are they going to have a 15th ballot that does exactly the same thing? they re working still. it s sort of like a rush in a
they re requested, those favoring a vote by yays and yeas nays are ordered. laura: they re waiting, let s go back to chad pergram. it appears they re going to continue chad. the problem is kevin mccarthy made significant progress today. he doesn t have the votes. he is one vote short. so in this circumstance you can do one of two things. you can go immediately to a 15th vote or you have to then go to an adjournment. you can do one of two things. so right now what they re doing is they are moving to adjourn. this requires a simple majority to adjourn. republicans so far have been able to adjourn when they ve needed to do so. they did so earlier today. they did so a couple of days ago. patrick mchenry the republican from north carolina has asked them to go out until noon on monday but then again the first order of business at that point would either be to adjourn or to take that 15th ballot. but they are short right now.
