Our latest adventure takes us on a twisted, scenic drive along the Pikes Peak Highway to the summit of Pikes Peak to try out their world famous donuts.
i-25, i-29. did you know that all of the interstates that go norts and south are odd numbers? and the ones that go this way are even numbers? one of the states you worked in, right? nebraska? i lived over there. all the interstates that go norts and south are odd-numbered, like 25 or 29 or i-95. anyway. all along the interstate, especially west of the interstate, front range, higher elevations, above 5,000 feet. because literally, denver is 5,000 feet. you re going to have to get west of there to get all of this high-wind warning. it will be high winds, of course across the 14ers and across the high country here, but not as much of a fire danger because it s above the tree line, so nothing to burn. but it is an event that we re going to watch for today. we wish it would go away. but the windy conditions will be right in the wrong direction for these firefighters trying to get a handle on this. let s hope that there s not
decided to roll down yesterday. and down it did. west winds. those are the worst kind of winds to roll down a canyon that is facing east to west. so that air was drying out, kind of like a santa ana effect. you think about this in california, winds coming down from san bernadino, very hot and dry and can really fan the fires out there. same kind of thing happened here. focus right there on denver. and i m going move this google earth here a little bit and show you what this area actually looks like. we move into denver, and then we re going to get right into boulder, colorado. that s where the university of colorado is. now, i m going to take you into the canyon. see this? this is exactly where they were worried about, these canyons all the way through, one more time, all the way in, and then there s boulder, coming right back in there. and this is how rugged this area is. you see the east to west. this would be the peaks, the 14ers, and then through the canyons where this fire happene
