submerged. cleanup continues in florida after catastrophic tornadoes tore through the panhandle. cbs s dave malkoff is an panama city beach. reporter: the national weather service is trying to figure out how fast this tornado was actually spinning. bending steel beams like this, yanking them out, they re pretty well secured there. s of us would be about 125-mile-an-hour wind. reporter: what ef is that? that s a 2. reporter: and tonight, some new jersey residents trapped in their home surrounded by floodwater. so heidi expected to get? i expected to get all the way up to here. reporter: charles mcdougald and his family moved here in 2017. this is the third time he has been hit. so back in december, when the flood hit, it went above that mailbox. yes. reporter: how much damage did your house suffer? about $10,000, $20,000 may be. you are just cleaning up from that. we are just getting through. reporter: tonight, emergency crews are going door-to-door advising f
six, eight feet of wall. you know, that s up and that s coming in. we ve seen in the last maybe half hour or so some transformers explode but little things that are fascinating to me. the birds are out. and they re out and there s actually a family of manatees that live right here, a mom and calf is right here. we haven t seen that yet. but these feeder bands that come through right now, a lull, but in a matter of seconds we re pelted with rain and some heavier winds but it seems for this area at least people are feeling a little bit hopeful that they re not going to be experiencing that 125-mile-an-hour wind that is about to hit that area, you know, a little north of here. but interesting the news conference that the governor had
good to see you too, robyn. we re getting our first images out of taiwan. this is actually a green island, a small island to the southeast of the main part of taiwan. you can see it. i ve highlighted it so you can get a sense of where this is. and the latest radar out of taiwan is showing that the majority of the storm is now moving away from the northeast coast of taiwan. and it s headed for southeast china. in fact, some of these outer bands from the storm are beginning to impact fujian province. so we ll be watching that increase throughout the day today and into tomorrow. this typhoon, chanthu, has 125-mile-an-hour winds. so it s basically the same as a category 3 hurricane. very compact, though. you can kind of see it right there. the eye very, very visible as it continues to move to the north. and that s what we ll be watching over the next couple of days. the forecast track from the joint typhoon warning center shows two things that really caught my attention. first, the storm
our chad myers is in the cnn weather center. tell us what you re seeing where this is heading. i m seeing this storm get stronger by the minute. it s in the gulf stream right now. it s in very, very warm water. when it was over the bahamas, for a while, it was over warm water. then it used all of that. but i m going to zoom in to this eye and show you what s going on in the colorful radar picture here, the satellite picture. this is the bright white clouds, a very, very high thunderstorms. tall, big and nasty storms, rotating now around the main eye. even though we re 105 miles per hour, i do believe this hurricane will increase in strength. i believe the pressure will go down and it s going to make a run at charleston. it s going to try to turn before it gets to charleston but it s going to be very close. charleston, if you get the eyewall, don t worry about the eye in the middle. the eyewall will contain winds to 120 to 125-mile-an-hour gusts certainly there and on up toward
