we re continuing our breaking news coverage. this is another angle, something we haven t seen before at 116th street and park avenue in manhattan, where now we are hearing from the fire department of new york that this is a partial building collapse with a fire. so, they aren t using the word explosion yet, but it does appear that that s what precipitated what we re seeing right now, an extraordinarily heavy smoke condition and reports you can see this hope all the way to midtown. if you re not familiar with new york city, the trains often originate in grand central station, that s at 42nd street. we are talking about 116th street, so 74 blocks away, and in that area, all the way down
are firefighters coming and going. also dozens of police on the scene because they re trying to keep people away. we have seen and talked to people who were very, very upset about loved ones who may be somewhere in the neighborhood unaccounted for. some of those situations may still be unresolved. we re trying to get to the bottom of all that. just a really incredible morning out here. and i can t emphasize enough, this is a very, very dense neighborhood. there are literally tens of thousands of people who lived close by here. this is 116th street in new york city. and it s a relatively poor, working class neighborhood. so a lot of concerns that the building may not have been up to code, that there may have been violations that weren t dealt with. and we know that there were reports of a gas leak, so there obviously was some kind of a problem going on here this morning. a lot of things for investigators to look at and a lot of concerns that people have here about the safety of their ne
wearing masks right now. extremely heavy smoke. so much so that when i got even a block away, i was coughing. that s the scene. are people seeing aerial pictures of this yet? we are. we have an aerial picture courtesy of wabc. we see a large hole in the middle of this large building on 116th. i can t tell whether the apartment building is occupied. maybe they were evacuated. maybe it was under construction. i don t know and don t want to speculation. wabc is reporting one minor injury. there could be more. it could be a gas line. it could be something else. is anyone talking about that yet on the scene, poppy. they are not yet. we literally just arrived. no comment right now. we are obviously making more

there could be people inside. the biggest concern is whether or not the building can hold up given what happened. there are concerns people maybe trapped. residents heard a huge boom. smoke began infiltrating the area. they called a level two mobilization for crowd control. the third alarm was sounded as well is another report as well we are getting from the tweets on this. this is up near central park. 116th street on the upper west side in harlem as the police are scrambling to respond to this. this is a chopper shot we are getting over the city. we all efforting closer shots and we will get those to you as they come in. we will keep on top of this as we continue to get reports. metro north train service has been disrupted. service in and out of that area
