this. good morning and happy friday. it is november 4th. this is your manhatt a.m. wake- call, i m carol costello. one of the women accusing the republican presidential candidate of sexual harassment may issue a statement later today. her lawyer says she would rebut cain s denials of any sexual advances when the woman worked for cain at the national restaurant association in the late 90s. she s one of three women who have accused cain of inappropriate behavior. cain repeatedly denied the allegations but has acknowledged at least one severance payment was made to an accuser. in a radio interview with sean hannity, mccain vowed to press ahead with his campaign. i can assure you this, sean, this will not deter me. this businessman will not be deterred in his drive to basically feel what i m supposed to be doing, which is to win this nomination and win the presidency. politico.com first broke the story on sunday and since then cain has given conflicting accounts on the al
more, so now what he has to do is do sort of the fear and loathing message, and a scorched earth campaign against whoever the republicans put up, and that is so jarring to the 2008 brand. megyn: there is no question the message has changed. separate and apart from his economic policies, does this affect him? because there was a ground swell of, maybe this guy is different. you know, maybe he will bring a new kind of politics to washington. and even just hearing his own shift in tone it sort of leads to you believe his shoulders are a little lower, even he feels dejected by what he s seen since he s got even there. megyn you re absolutely right. there has been a shift in his tone and message and the president has to face the fact and this is what he s doing. the reality is the economy is getting better. we were losing 750,000 jobs a month when he took office. last month we added 103,000. so it s getting better. for those not touched by the progress they are suffering.

thanks so much for coming in today. great to be with you, shannon. shannon: talk about the fact that unemployment remain is above 9%. held steady at 9.1%. didn t see an increase but not a decrease. what do you make of where we are right now? certainly very discouraging to the 14 million unemployed americans looking for jobs and the broader measure of unemployment which includes workers working part time who want full-time jobs. that went from 16.2% to 16.5%. there were more workers employed part time who want full-time jobs. shannon: let s also talk about job creation. looks like a bright spot in this. 103,000 jobs created over the last month but you say we have to look behind the numbers. we do and part of the 103 is 45,000 verizon workers who came back to jobs after a strike. the new jobs creatingion including the verizon workers just around 48,000.
