Continued Law Enforcement Collaboration Halts a Unique Human Smuggling Attempt

LAREDO, TEXAS – Border Patrol agents assigned to the Laredo South Station, with collaboration from Laredo Police Department (LPD) and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), halted a unique human smuggling attempt that involved an ice cream truck in south Laredo.
The incident occurred in the early evening of February 24, when agents observed individuals getting into several vehicles to include an ice cream vendor truck. Agents requested assistance from LPD and DPS and together they were able to apprehend 17 individuals in relation to the truck. All the people found inside including the driver and passenger, both United States citizens, were arrested.

LAREDO, Texas – Border Patrol agents assigned to the Laredo North Station and Border Patrol Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) took quick action and rescued a woman from the Rio Grande River in northwest Laredo.
The incident happened during the early hours of February 20, when agents responded to a report of several individuals crossing the Rio Grande River near the Father Charles M. McNaboe Park. Agents heard cries for help from the riverbanks and discovered
a 61 year-old woman lying on the ground who had become unresponsive. A Border Patrol EMT quickly arrived on scene to assist as the woman was showing signs of hypothermia.
Laredo Sector Border Patrol Apprehends Over 200 Individuals in Tractor-Trailers During the Weekend

LAREDO, TEXAS – During a busy weekend, Laredo Sector Border Patrol stopped three human smuggling attempts at its checkpoints and apprehended 230 individuals.
Beginning on February 19 through February 22, human smugglers attempted to use tractor-trailers to smuggle people from the countries of Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras through different Laredo Sector checkpoints. In each incident, the vigilance of agents, along with Service canines, foiled these attempts. All the concealed individuals were found to be illegally present in the U.S.
In all three events, the individuals, along with the drivers, all U.S. citizens, were placed under arrest pending further investigation. U.S. Border Patrol seized the tractors and trailers.

172 illegal aliens north of Laredo. From January 23 through January 25, human smugglers attempted to use tractor trailers to smuggle illegal aliens from the countries of Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. In each incident, the vigilance of agents along with Service canines foiled these attempts. In all three events, a total of 172 individuals and drivers, all U.S. citizens, were placed under arrest pending further investigation. U.S. Border Patrol seized the tractors and trailers.
