The Hoboken Health Department reported two more deaths due to COVID-19. They were two women in their 80s.
“I extend my best wishes and deepest sympathies to their family members and loved ones during this extraordinarily difficult time,” said Mayor Ravi Bhalla in a Nixle alert to residents.
This brings Hoboken’s total COVID-19-related deaths to 37 since the pandemic began.
Hoboken has had 2,082 residents test positive for the virus, and 32 new cases were reported on Jan. 5.
Hoboken University Medical Center is currently treating 29 COVID-19 patients, which includes 10 Hoboken residents.

AS of Dec. 8, Hoboken University Medical Center was treating 28 people for COVID-19, seven of whom were Hoboken residents.
Hoboken officials are asking residents to postpone traveling and limit gatherings this holiday season because the Coronavirus continues to spread COVID 19 at a rate of transmission of 1.12 in New Jersey.
Indoor gatherings among non-household members remain one of the top ways COVID-19 is spreading among residents, according to contact tracing from the Health Department.
“I know it can be disappointing and upsetting to stay home,” said Mayor Ravi Bhalla. “But keeping our family and friends safe, especially those who are elderly and at-risk is the best thing we can do for them during the pandemic.”
