Shirley H. Benson, 82, of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away Monday, March 8, 2021, in her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
A lifelong area resident, she was born on Nov. 5, 1938, in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late C. Albert and Florence Grant Hagstrom.
Shirley was a 1956 graduate of Jamestown High School. She worked for the Bank of Jamestown and for Dr. Herbert White Jr. as a dental assistant prior to beginning her true lifelong career as an outstanding homemaker, loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. Her family was most important to her and brought her great joy.

CFGC, the first commercial station in Brantford, had its studios in the Kerby House Hotel on Colborne Street.

It opened on March 17, 1926, with Herbert White as the station manager. A little more than a year later, on June 3, 1927, the station closed because of financial problems.

In March, 1926, John D. Patterson opened his radio station, CKCR, in his home on Main Street in St. George. He later rented the second floor over the Bank of Montreal where he set up his broadcasting equipment.
