Beloved Baseball Legend Hank Aaron Has Died At Age 86

JSOnline has reported that he passed from a stroke. Aaron first began playing in the Negro Leagues in 1951 and ended his career in 1976 as a player for the Milwaukee Brewers, though he spent 20 years (1954-1974) with the Atlanta Braves. During his run, he hit a then-record setting 755 home runs, which stood until 2007. The chairman of the Braves, Terry McGuirk, has spoken out about Aaron’s death. “We are absolutely devastated by the passing of our beloved Hank,” the statement begins. “He was a beacon for our organization, first as a player, then with player development and always with our community efforts…His success on the diamond was matched only by his business accomplishments off the field and capped by his extraordinary philanthropic efforts.”

Hank Aaron is dead.  The Hall of Famer and former home run king died today at the age of 86. Henry “Hank” Aaron was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1934.  He made his Major League debut with the then-Milwaukee Braves.  He played primarily for the Atlanta Braves during his 23-year career.  “Hammerin’ Hank,” as he became to be known, broke Babe Ruth’s home run record of 714 home runs in 1974. He finished his career with 762 total home runs. Aaron was  elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame 1982. To this day, he remains baseball’s runs batted in leader with 2,297 and total base leader with 6,856.

Aaron was a native of Alabama whose career began in the Negro Leagues, but quickly took him to the Majors, where he landed with the Milwaukee Braves. He soon made his mark as one of the most dangerous power hitters in baseball. Aaron finished his career with a record 755 homers, a stat so impressive it has been bested by only one player, Barry Bonds, who finished his career with 762 – though that record has come under a cloud of steroid-use allegations.
