Election Board Hearing Rescheduled Following Call to Remove Board Chair

The Village Electoral Board was set to hear arguments over Village Mayoral Candidate Richard Samples’ objection to the petition for candidacy by Tyson Manker, however after a flurry of activity by both sides, the hearing has been rescheduled to next Wednesday, January 20 th. On December 30 th, Samples filed the objection on grounds that Manker’s petition was not properly fastened as instructed, one of the notarized pages of signatures was not signed by Manker, and that he failed to file his Statement of Economic Opportunity with Morgan County Clerk’s Office.

Village president candidate Richard “Dick” Samples filed an objection last week against Manker, arguing that Manker failed to properly file candidacy forms. Manker on Monday filed a motion over an email he said show Jennings has “a personal bias.” Manker contends the email from Jennings was “trying to intimidate [him] into removing a post from his personal Facebook page promoting his candidacy for village president,” according to the motion.

The Village of South Jacksonville’s Electoral Board will meet at 6:00 pm next Tuesday, January 12 th to consider the objection by candidate Dick Samples, on the Petition for Election of his opponent Tyson Manker. The Electoral Board met in quick fashion at the Village Hall on Dewey Drive last night to lay out the rules and, members of the Board and decide on a date. During the meeting which lasted less than ten minutes, Chairman and current Village Mayor Harry Jennings said the motion to strike and dismiss the objection filed by Manker would be heard first.

During the hearing, members of the village’s Electoral Board will hear both the objection and a motion to strike it. Village trustee Richard “Dick” Samples, who has filed as a presidential candidate in the April race, filed a petition objection against his opponent in the race, Tyson Manker. Manker has filed a motion to dismiss Samples’ objection. The hearing will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at South Jacksonville Village Hall, 301 Dewey Drive. It also will be available via Zoom.

By Jeremy Coumbes on January 6, 2021 at 1:07pm Current Village Trustee and candidate for Mayor of South Jacksonville, Dick Samples filed an “objection to the nomination petition” of the candidacy of his opponent Tyson Manker with the South Jacksonville electoral board. According to a press release from Manker’s campaign, Samples objection states the “Petition is not stapled or fastened at the top of the petition as instructed”. Manker told WLDS News he received official notice of the objection on Monday. A Call for a Hearing by the Village of South Jacksonville’s Electoral Board has been scheduled for tomorrow at 6:00 pm, ahead of the village’s regular schedueld January Trustee Meeting.
