2 kayakers, dog rescued from Susquehanna River

Rescue crews saved two adults and their dog after their kayaks capsized in the Susquehanna River Sunday afternoon.
Crews were dispatched when they got word of two kayakers in the water, clinging to a bridge pier, said Harrisburg River Rescue Water Safety Division Chief Tony Reigle.
The kayakers were found holding on to the old railroad bridge piers south of City Island, where crews rescued them by boat and returned them to shore.
It’s unknown what caused them to capsize. Neither kayaker was wearing a life jacket, Reigle said.
Under state regulations, people are required to wear personal flotation devices in the cold-weather months between Nov. 1 and April 30 while on boats less than 16 feet long, or in canoes or kayaks.
