Roger Ng s US trial expected to begin June or July; still unclear when he will return to Malaysia The Edge 16/3/2021 Timothy Achariam © Provided by The Edge KUALA LUMPUR (March 16): The trial of former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng in the US for his role in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal is expected to begin in June or July this year, the High Court here was told today.  Ng is facing four charges in Malaysia and currently extradited to the US while awaiting his trial for conspiring to launder money and bribe government officials in Malaysia and Abu Dhabi through bond offerings that Goldman Sachs handled.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng ( pic), who has been extradited to the United States to face charges related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) there, is expected to be back in Malaysia after June 1. Deputy Public Prosecutor Norinna Bahadun told the High Court that Ng will be in the country after June 1 based on an application by the US Department of Justice (DoJ). At the High Court here, Ng - whose birth name is Ng Chong Hwa - is facing four counts of abetting Goldman Sachs pertaining to the sale of guaranteed notes and bonds belonging to a 1MDB subsidiary, amounting to US$6.5bil (RM26.7bil), by omitting material facts and making false statements.

His lawyer, Datuk Tan Hock Chuan, when contacted by reporters, said the Appeals Court deputy registrar, Darmafikri Abu Adam, set April 22 and 23 April to hear the appeal during the case management, conducted through the Zoom application. The proceeding was also attended by deputy public prosecutor Rullizah Abdul Majid, who said the court also fixed March 5 for further case management.
