A disruption is likely in the oxygen supply from Panipat and Barotiwala starting today, the Centre has indicated, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said today. The government, he added, has also expressed its inability to allow Punjab s local industry to undertake commercial import of oxygen from Pakistan through the Wagah-Attari border. This, he said, would cause great stress on Punjab s healthcare system. Around 10,000 patients are surviving on varying levels of oxygen support in the state, he added.

Chandigarh, May 5 : Amid the oxygen crisis triggered by the spiralling Covid-19 cases, the Punjab government on Wednesday announced thrust sector status for all oxygen production units, while appointing a nodal officer to coordinate with the Customs Department for quick clearance of foreign aid.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said with the way things were going currently, the situation was likely to worsen in the coming days, with nobody knowing how many more waves of Covid would hit the country and the state.

Chandigarh, May 3 : Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Monday appealed to the Centre for more oxygen tankers to be made available to the state, which did not have enough such vehicles to transport the life-saving gas for seriously ill Covid-19 patients.
The Chief Minister, at the Covid review meeting, said the state urgently need more tankers, as it currently had only 15 at its disposal, with two more likely to come in by Tuesday.
Noida: A Lucknow-based journalist and his driver died after a heavy vehicle hit an Innova, in which they were travelling, near Knowledge Park area along Yamuna Expressway on the intervening night of April 28 and29.
Police said Vijendra and Praveen Kumar died on the spot, while Vijendra’s friend Neeraj Ahuja suffered serious injuries. The car was being driven by Praveen.
The incident, according to the police, happened around 3 am when the three were travelling from Greater Noida to Delhi. The SUV was rammed by a heavy vehicle from behind.
Vijendra’s brother Vivek has lodged a complaint with the police.
