SHARE ON: Sables-Spanish Rivers Township is in a good position financially following the release of the draft financial statements for last year. Auditors Marc Belanger and Roxanne Gervais of Baker-Tilly walked council through the municipality’s financial statements, including assets and liabilities. The township had just over $5.9-million dollars in net assets. Tax collection is going well, although the pandemic has had an effect according to township treasurer Ruth Clare. Hydro outages set for end of the month for upgrades

SHARE ON: Espanola Hydro and Hydro One both have planned power outages for the end of the month to upgrade the lines and equipment. Both utilities have planned the outage for Sunday, May 30th from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. The areas affected include Espanola, Sables-Spanish Rivers Township, Nairn & Hyman Township, and the Township of Baldwin as well as unorganized areas accessing the utility services.

SHARE ON: The one day household hazardous waste day runs from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm tomorrow in Espanola. Poster provided by Lacloche Foothills Sables-Spanish Rivers Township council knows some of their ratepayers will be disappointed, but the members feel they have no choice but to postpone the Clean-Up Days originally set for May. At Wednesday’s council meeting, Councillor Kevin Burke says under the Ontario stay-at-home orders, the township should not encourage the public to leave their homes to dispose of their garbage and his fellow councillors agreed. Council has decided to cancel its Clean-Up Days originally scheduled for the second and third weekends in May until next month adding they could be postponed again depending on the COVID-19 protocols.

SHARE ON: Sables-Spanish Rivers Township council knows some of their ratepayers will be disappointed, but the members feel they have no choice but to postpone the Clean-Up Days originally set for May. At Wednesday’s council meeting, many members expressed concerns with the tight restrictions imposed by the Government of Ontario in regards to the stay-at-home order and the state of emergency, which will be in place until at least May 20th. Councillor Kevin Burke says under the orders, the township should not encouraging the public to leave their homes to dispose of their garbage, putting them at risk. He says the township could be held liable by allowing the movement of people through the township, and his fellow councillors agreed.
