A Conservative MP has branded the Royal College of Nursing s demand for a 12.5% pay rise for nurses as unrealistic and “one for the fairies”.
Speaking during the BBC Politics North show on Sunday, Karl McCartney, MP for Lincoln, was quizzed by staff nurse Mel Kerr on whether the pay of nurses and other health staff needed to better reflect the responsibilities they have.
“But 12.5% is far in excess of being realistic and that is certainly one for the fairies”
Karl McCartney
In response, he said: “In the main I think it does, obviously we would all like to pay our health services more.”
