Spurred by incessant intermittent power-cuts and sporadic black-outs, Malawi Government is geared to increase energy generation capacity in the country in an ambitious and mind-blowing plan and has embarked on working towards adding a staggering 1,000 megawatts of electricity to the national grid within the next four years, President Lazarus Chakwera has announced.
President Chakwera made the remarks, which is sweet music to all Malawians who for so long have suffered a continued stroke of bad electricity management systems on Wednesday in Parliament when he was answering questions to Members of Parliament.

Member of Parliament for Nsanje Lalanje Honourable Gladys Ganda has mourned with communities over the drowning of ten people who wanted to cross the Shire river from their river gardens.
The people who normally cross Shire during winter cropping met their fate after the boat they were travelling in capsized midway of the Shire river.
Speaking on Gaka FM, a community radio station, Ganda expressed shock and requested Government to quickly fix the bridge challenges at Mtayamoyo which is very crucial to the people of the area.

People in Mangochi have expressed concern over the persistent low water pressure and at times taps running dry a situation that has persisted for two months now.
Some residents have told MBC that the development is a health risk in light of COVID-19 which requires good hygiene as one of the preventive measures to halt further spread of the pandemic.

The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) has said it has effected a temporary loadsheding program following the loss of 100MW at Nkula B Power Station.
According to a press statement seen by this publication, ESCOM said the shutdown follows the bursting of a pipe on Machine Number 5 something that poses flooding risks for the station.
The situation has also meant that 100MW of capacity is lost leaving ESCOM with 275MW against a forecast demand of 310MW
With this, ESCOM revealed that Malawians should brace for power outages during peak hours.

In its update on its website, ESCOM stated that rainfall amounts which the country has received recently have not been sufficient to bring major improvement to electricity generation capacity.
