THE HAGUE, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) Weekly COVID-19 infections saw a decline in the Netherlands on Tuesday after weeks of increases, as the government gets ready for a vaccination program to start on Jan. 8 next year.
In its weekly update from Dec. 23 to Dec. 29, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reported that the number of new COVID-19 infections was 67,388, compared to 82,340 in the previous week.
The RIVM said this decrease may be attributed to the lockdown starting on Dec. 15, adding that it is also possible that the holidays have had an effect on people s testing behavior. If people had themselves tested less often for complaints, the slight decrease in the number of reported infections could also be partly explained by this.
