A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested after allegedly stealing checks, writing two out to himself and depositing them.
Arrest reports say the incident occurred on January 27
th. A victim reported to Iowa City Police that their checks were stolen, and around 1:45 pm, 42-year-old William Clinton of Wenig Road Northeast deposited two checks into the ATM machine at the Collins Community Credit Union branch on Wiley Boulevard in Cedar Rapids.
Clinton is accused of writing two checks, in the amount of $200 and $455 to himself, signing the victim’s name and depositing them into the ATM.
Clinton allegedly does not know the victim, and the victim did not give Clinton permission to write checks on their account.
