Walker County Development Authority May Issue $19 Million In Bonds For Multi-Family Housing On Happy Valley Road, Rossville Sunday, March 7, 2021 The Walker County Development Authority is set to issue $19 million in bonds for a multi-family housing project on Happy Valley Road, Rossville. The Walker County Board of Commissioners is set to vote on the proposal on Thursday. The location is near Ridgeland High School. Gateway at Rossville, LP is proposing to build 156 housing units. Also, it was announced earlier that 500 homes would be built near Ridgeland High. Walker County s Whitfield Speaks Against Higher Load Limits For Loggers; Citing Damage To Roads Tuesday, February 23, 2021 Walker County Board of Commissioners Chairman Shannon Whitfield was scheduled to testify Tuesday before the Georgia Senate Transportation Committee at a hearing on SB 118. It is a proposal to allow vehicles hauling forest products to reach a total gross weight of up to 100,000 pounds on six axles. Current law allows forest products to be hauled on five axles up to 80,000 pounds with a five percent variance.   Chairman Whitfield said he will be speaking in opposition to this proposal, as increased weight limits lead to a rapid decline of local roads and bridges.

Walker County Has New COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline Sunday, January 24, 2021 There is a new number for Walker County residents to call to submit their information to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.   Beginning Monday, the Walker County COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline, 706-670-1234, will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.   Through a partnership with the Walker County Health Department, the new hotline will serve as ground zero for eligible residents to sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine, which remains in extremely short supply. Currently in Georgia, the vaccine is only available to healthcare workers, first responders, long-term care residents and adults 65+ and their caregivers.

Walker County ends 80 years of sole commissioner form of government

At 2:30 the afternoon of Dec. 30, Probate Judge Christy Anderson swore in the members of the new Walker County Board of Commissioners at the courthouse in LaFayette. The meeting was not open to the public but is posted on Facebook. Each member of the new board took a turn standing before Judge Anderson, left hand placed on a Bible held by one or more relatives, right hand raised, and swore that he was legally qualified to be a commissioner, that he had no financial conflicts of interest, that he would perform his duties to the best of his ability and that he would uphold the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of the state of Georgia.
