United Way Suncoast gets $20 million gift from MacKenzie Scott United Way Suncoast, which serves a five-county area that includes Sarasota and Manatee, is receiving $20 million, the largest gift in its history, from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, officials announced Wednesday. Scott, the former wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, announced in a Medium.com post Tuesday that she has given nearly $4.2 billion to 384 organizations in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., in the last four months. This year, she has donated $6 billion to different nonprofits. Easterseals Southwest Florida, based in Sarasota, and Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee are also among the organizations receiving contributions from Scott, but she did not state the specific amounts in her post.
