Lawrence Junior Stanbrough, 84, of Ottumwa died Thursday, July 1, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Ottumwa. He was born during the July of 1936 heat wave on July 15, 1936, one of the hottest days that year. The son of Lawrence and Thelma Wonderlich Stanbrough was born at home in Ollie, Iowa.
Lawrence attended country school around Farson, Hedrick, and Fremont. He graduated from Farson High School as the Valedictorian of the class of 1954.
Following high school Lawrence enlisted in the United States Army, he was trained as a security analyst and served until his honorable discharge in 1959.

The Iowa Track and Field team has put together the most accomplished season in program history. And it’s not over yet.
This year, the men’s team swept both the indoor and outdoor conference championships, breaking school records in both and winning the two by an average of 30 team points. Now, the Hawkeyes are sending ten entries (five individuals and two relays) to the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships, which kick off today. The women’s team is also sending five entries (all individuals), taking the total to a program-best 15 entries.

David Lawrence Jr. reappointed to FAMU Board of Trustees
Gov. Ron DeSantis last week announced the appointment of David Lawrence Jr. to the Florida A&M University Board of Trustees.
Lawrence Jr., of Coral Gables, is Chair of The Children’s Movement of Florida.
Previously, he was publisher of The Miami Herald, publisher and executive director of the Detroit Free Press and editor of the Charlotte Observer.
Lawrence Jr., who has served on the FAMU Board of Trustees since 2015, is Director Emeritus on The Everglades Foundation Board of Directors and is a former Chairman of both the Children’s Trust of Miami-Dade County and the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe.
