Placing an order would also guarantee certain exclusivity as the Blackpool firm Top Hat converted only five standard Yugo hatchbacks for open-air motoring – and today, Liam Griffin owns the sole roadworthy survivor.

Henry Ford didn’t invent the production line, as is often believed. Manufacturers had been using similar assembly methods for decades.
