The Minnesota Elementary School Principals’Association (MESPA) recognized Liam Dawson, principal of Northside Elementary School in St. James with the 2021 MESPA Division Leadership Achievement Award for MESPA’s Southwest Division.
Principals are responsible for a school’s instructional, school culture, and resource leadership. The award honors principals whose exemplary leadership and sustained efforts have made noteworthy contributions to the operation of effective school learning programs improving education, their communities, and their profession.
Dawson was recognized by colleagues statewide on April 15 at the MESPYs, the premier elementary principal celebration of the year celebrated via YouTube livestream.
Dawson summed up his educational philosophy with a quote from Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

As children return to the classroom after a year of home learning due to the pandemic, schools will settle back into their old routines; timetables, extracurricular clubs, homework assignments, sports, and of course the morbid necessity of active shooter drills.
The past year has also seen record gun sales in the U.S., increasing the access to firearms in the homes of many children. And research shows COVID lockdowns have wreaked an appalling toll on youth mental health.

PLYMOUTH, Minn. A high school senior in a Minneapolis suburb received the ACT test results that most students dream of: a perfect score, on her first attempt.
Armstrong High School student Mio Aoki-Sherwood earned a composite score of 36 on the standardized test, putting her in a very narrow pool of students who ve achieved the highest possible score.
Former Gopher Kim Royston was 1st on scene of shots fired at Plymouth Middle School

PLYMOUTH, Minn. (FOX 9) - School officials say Plymouth Middle School assistant principal and former Minnesota Gophers football player Kim Royston was the first building administrator to arrive at an incident where a student fired a gun at the school Monday morning.
According to a statement from Robbinsdale Area Schools, a student brought a loaded gun to the school and discharged multiple shots toward the hallway ceiling before classes began Monday morning. No injuries were reported.

One person is in custody after multiple shots were fired inside a Minnesota middle school Monday morning, officials said.
No one was hurt, and Plymouth Middle School has since been deemed safe, Plymouth Police Chief Erik Fadden said at a news conference.
Stephanie Burrage, interim superintendent of Robbinsdale Area Schools, said the suspect was a student. The student s identity was not released.
