GTD Pro offers the opportunity for factory teams and driver lineups to compete in the class, while customer teams, Pro-Am or Am-Am lineups have the option of competing in either GTD PRO or the standard GTD class.
GTD Pro will replace the GTLM class, a class that has dwindled to just six cars for the 2021 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
The writing was on the wall for the GT Le Mans class at the beginning of this year with Ford pulling the GT out of racing in 2019, and Porsche announcing that it wouldn’t be back with its two car team in 2021.

At least one driver felt that teams were still holding back during qualifying, fearing the wrath of Balance of Performance police.
Should one brand of car go too fast in qualifying, IMSA reserves right to reach into its BoP toolbox and penalize the entire brand for the 24.
First, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship relied on teams’ ability to Do The Right Thing. Then they made rules to prevent it. Then they upped the technology to detect it. Nothing worked. So Sunday, IMSA had a qualifying race, setting the field for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
