McAuliffe presented leadership award posthumously
OKLAHOMA CITY – Mike McAuliffe, a member of Leadership OKC Class VII who lost his life to COVID-19 in November, was named recently to receive the organization’s Distinguished Leadership Award posthumously.
The award recognizes and honors outstanding volunteer work in the local community. McAuliffe was a longtime civic leader, “visionary, event planner extraordinaire, consummate promoter, advocate, and tireless volunteer of all things Oklahoma City,” Leadership OKC said in a release. “His love for his city, his state, and the people in it was unrivaled.”
Among other things, McAuliffe was an ardent supporter of local iconic events such as “Opening Night” New Year’s Eve celebrations, the Oklahoma City Jazz Festival and the OKC Holiday River Parade. He was involved with the Oklahoma River Foundation, Allied Arts, Make-A-Wish Foundation, OKC Rotary Club 29, the OKC Philharmonic and numerous other civic organizations.

The death of a nine-year-old girl, who drowned while out whitebaiting with her step-grandfather, may have been avoided if she had been wearing a lifejacket, the coroner says.
Emily Branje was swept out to sea on 26 September, 2019 while watching her step-grandfather whitebaiting on the Hokitika River mouth on the West Coast.
