Sustainable Population Australia’s Michael Bayliss says the rate of population growth should be slowed “for the sake of our natural environment and quality of life”.
“The rate of population growth needs to slow down and we need to have a broadly stable population long term,” he told Sky News host Catherine McGregor.
Mr Bayliss said Australia should meet its climate commitments, which is hard enough to do with current population growth rates.
“We need to meet our climate commitments and that is difficult to do if our population is expected to double by 2040.”
