MONTPELIER â Now that leaders are sworn in, speeches have been made and committees have been assigned, Vermontâs state government can really roll up its sleeves and get to work.
First and foremost on the list is a Town Meeting bill that will allow Vermont communities to hold the event safely, or potentially reschedule it.
Members of the state House and Senate Government Operations committees have already been working on H. 48. MONTPELIER â Itâs official: Bennington is throwing a big party in 2027, and everyone is invited.
Gov. Phil Scott has signed an executive order creating a 250th Anniversary Commission to plan, coordinate and promote observances and activities recognizing the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Bennington, and the Green Mountain Stateâs role in the American Revolution.
The plan is to mark anniversaries beginning with the Green Mountain Boysâ capture of Fort Ticonderoga in 1775 â the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776; and the Battle of Hubbardton and Battle of Bennington in 1777.
To observe these events, Vermont will join other states and the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission âto encourage remembrance of our past, celebrate the present and look forward to a promising future,â Scottâs office said in a press release.
