Barger Academy Of Fine Arts Opens New Outdoor Classroom Friday, April 23, 2021 Barger Academy of Fine Arts celebrated Earth Day yesterday by holding a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new outdoor learning area. This opportunity is the first step in expanding the ways in which students can get outdoors and learn hands-on about the world around them. Students designed all elements of the outdoor learning environment.    In the fall of 2019, Barger’s pond was renovated and students started growing seedlings for a community vegetable garden. A grant from the Junior League of Chattanooga allowed Barger Academy to receive a new patio sunshade and a resource room for garden tools and supplies.

ACC hosts third virtual energy plan town hall meeting

Athens-Clarke County’s Clean and Renewable Energy Campaign hosted its third virtual town hall meeting on Monday, in which ACC representatives answered questions from Athens residents on how ACC will reach its 100% renewable electricity goal by 2035. The panelists introduced themselves and explained how the meeting would consist of a layout of the plan’s progress thus far, followed by a Q&A for the attendees and finally an opportunity for feedback on the plan. Before diving into the plan, former Sustainability Officer Andrew Saunders, who was filling in for current Interim Sustainability Officer Mike Wharton, introduced the Community Advisory Board made up of local stakeholders chosen by Mayor Kelly Girtz. The board advises ACC and its partners through the planning process.

TSWA Boy s All-State Team Includes Four Area Standouts Hurst, Thorne, Johnson And Rivers Honored By State Sports Writers Tuesday, April 20, 2021 The Tennessee Sports Writer’s Association has released its 2021 Boy’s All-State team and the Chattanooga-area has four student-athletes named to the list of honorees. Among those area athletes selected there were three seniors and a sophomore. Cleveland’s Grant Hurst was honored in Class AAA, while Kerrick Thorne of Howard was selected in Class AA. Both of these talented seniors led their respective teams to this past season s state playoff quarterfinal rounds. In Division II, Boyd Buchanan’s sophomore standout Caden Johnson was named in Class A and multi-sport sensation and Memphis football commit Eric Rivers of McCallie was honored in Class AA.
