Local Students Compete In Virtual Great Computer Challenge Details Published: 17 May 2021 Over the weekend local students gathered virtually with ODU and WHRO Public Media staff for the 36th annual Great Computer Challenge (GCC). Congratulations to all the winners! Students from the Governor s School placed first in the Level 4 Graphic Design category. The GCC is a joint project of WHRO, the Consortium for Interactive Instruction and Old Dominion University that provides an opportunity to recognize student achievement, foster teamwork and introduce students to a college environment. Teams of students compete in categories such as Desktop Publishing, Object-Oriented Business Programming, Graphic and Web Design, Music Composition, Video Editing and more. Categories were a bit limited this year due to the event having to be virtual, but students still enjoyed the opportunity to test their skills.

Here s a list of the school districts that have announced their winter break schedule for food distribution: Norfolk School Nutrition will be offering free grab-n-go meals for children ages 18 and under at 23 school locations on Mondays and Wednesdays during Winter Break. Williamsburg-James City County Schools announced all students will return to virtual learning starting Tuesday, December 15. The division said the move is due to the significant increase of coronavirus trends in the area. In its announcement, officials said James City County and the City of Williamsburg are both in the highest risk for transmission of the coronavirus in schools, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.
