Liverpool were left to rue a lacklustre performance as they were handed a 3-1 defeat at Real Madrid, and fans were disappointed with the effort and lack of quality on show.

Goals: Vinicius Jr 27’, 65, Asensio 36′; Salah 51′
The Reds were on Spanish soil for the first leg of their quarter-final tie, but they had some travel sickness to start having struggled to keep possession and assert themselves in the game.
And they paid the price for allowing Real to have the run of the game as Toni Kroos’ long ball was launched to the chest of Vinicius Jr who seized the chance.
It has now been 365 days since Anfield hosted a full crowd, when Liverpool welcomed Atletico Madrid in the Champions League at a time when COVID-19 had just hit the continent.
It was March 11, 2020, when Jurgen Klopp‘s side played in front of 52,267 fans, seeking to overturn a one-goal deficit against the Spaniards at Anfield.
But their eventual defeat after extra-time would ultimately drift into the background as it would be the last professional game played in front of a full crowd in England for more than a year as the pandemic swept across the world.
There were no masks or social distancing at that time but growing fears of what lay ahead, with the controversial decision to allow fans from Madrid to travel – which was already in lockdown – met with bewilderment.

It’s a fixture that has never been short of drama and the fans have always had a lot to say in the contest, but for the third time Liverpool’s meeting with Chelsea will be behind-closed-doors.
With a top four fight on their hands and a turbulent run of form of late, you just know Anfield would be in fine voice for the visit of the Blues on a cold Thursday evening.
But while we cannot be there to fill up the seats, you can always rely on the dulcet tones of The Voice of Anfield, George Sephton to build up an atmosphere.
Goals: Alzate 56′
The Reds were back at Anfield aiming to make it three wins on the spin the league for only the second time this season when Brighton came to town, but they would only taste defeat.
The first half was uneventful, to say the least, with neither team having landed a shot on target – with Liverpool dominating possession without any meaningful return.
And while the start of the second started in a similar fashion, it was the Seagulls who struck first after poor defending from the Reds paved the way for a fortuitous Steven Alzate goal.
For all of Liverpool’s possession, they could not muster anything to challenge the Brighton ‘keeper in what was an easy evening for the Brighton defence, derailing what had been a positive two results heading into the clash.
