Days of our Lives has been renewed at NBC! Its music to fans’ ears after news broke a couple of weeks ago that the hit daytime drama had stopped production following the taping of the final episode of Season 56.
The good news comes months later than usual. In the past, NBC has announced the soap opera’s status at the beginning of the year, giving the writers and actors plenty of notice before the current contract wraps.
All the drama is in the past, for now, as fans have learned life in Salem will continue.

This pickup comes in the wake of a rocky, belt-tightening year for
Days, one that saw several longtime cast members most notably Kristian Alfonso (Hope) and Melissa Reeves (Jennifer) exit amid controversy. And like the rest of the TV industry, the soap was forced to shut down production last spring for several months due to COVID-19.

Was Days of our Lives canceled is a question weighing heavily on fans since the NBC soap opera has not yet been renewed.
Days’ future uncertainty has fans thinking back to all the chaos that erupted in November 2019, with the cast being released from their contracts as renewal talks began. Thankfully in January 2020, NBC officially announced that Days of our Lives was given the green light for Season 56.
It’s been a challenging year for the network and soap opera due to the coronavirus pandemic. New expenses occurred due to safety protocols when production resumed last September following a mandatory shutdown.

And because
Days tapes so far in advance, negotiations would have to drag on for several more months before viewers would see any interruption on air.
