(WECT) - New Hanover County is set to receive around $45.4 million from the American Rescue Plan, which was signed into law by President Joe Biden earlier this month. Today, County Manager Chris Coudriet laid out his proposal for how the county plans to allocate the funds the receive from the federal government. The spending plan is broken down into eight segments: Broadband connectivity, business and employment assistance, mortgage assistance, physical and mental health resources, infrastructure and emergency management improvements, revenue replacements, bonuses for county employees, and reserve funding.

NHC says Rescue Act funding could increase affordable housing, but details aren t worked out yet

Listen to the story here. The American Rescue Act signed into law by President Biden last month is sending roughly $45 million to New Hanover County. Officials say $4 million of that is earmarked for infrastructure improvements they say will help create affordable housing although it s not exactly clear how that will be worked out yet, or how much additional housing the county will be able to leverage. Most of the $1.9 trillion in federal covid relief funding is required to be related to pandemic recovery, but the act also permits local water and sewer projects. That allows the county to use $4 million to extend water and sewer lines along Sidbury Road in northern New Hanover County.

Neighbor to Neighbor campaign encourages residents to do small acts of kindness for one another | News, Sports, Jobs - Lawrence Journal-World: news, information, headlines and events in Lawrence, Kansas

The Neighbor to Neighbor campaign aims to spread kindness through the community. Making someone’s day can be as easy as dropping a note in a neighbor’s mailbox or even just smiling and waving at someone on a walk, and Douglas County is encouraging residents to do that and more in its newest wellness campaign. The well-being branch of Douglas County’s pandemic response team launched a “Neighbor to Neighbor” campaign last week. The campaign encourages people to reach out to their neighbors in an informal way to connect and check on one another. Though the campaign is for everyone, there is a specific focus to reach out to older members of the community, as well as those with limited mobility or those who live alone.
