PROVIDENCE The state education commissioner and the mayor of Providence have called on embattled Providence Schools Supt. Harrison Peters to resign.
Peters admitted this week that he had known about a previous incident in Hillsborough County, Florida, in which Alege was accused of popping the toes of five male students as a form of discipline.
Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green asked for Peters resignation on Tuesday, after she met with Gov. Dan McKee and members of the community, according to Department of Education spokesman Victor Morente. McKee s office said asking for the resignation was the right thing to do.
On Wednesday, The Providence School Board unanimously passed a no-confidence vote on Peters after meeting in closed session.
