PORT CLINTON - Mayor Mike Snider declared a state of emergency due to flooding for the city of Port Clinton Friday afternoon. “Many roads are impassable due to high water, downed trees and power lines,” Snider said in a news release. “All vehicles are asked to stay off the streets until the state of emergency has been lifted.” Snider also advised using caution as throughout the community manhole covers and catch basins have been becoming detached and creating pedestrian hazards.  FirstEnergy reported that between 21 and 100 customers were without power at Put-in-Bay as of 3 p.m. Friday,   Closures and cancellations throughout county

Put-in-Bay eagerly getting ready for upcoming season

Put-in-Bay eagerly getting ready for upcoming season Put-in-Bay Harbor on Lake Erie’s South Bass Island is beginning to wake up after a long winter’s nap. The popular tourist location will be in full swing in the coming weeks as its many island attractions open, and boaters and visitors return. (Photo by Billy Market) BY D’ARCY PATRICK EGAN PUT-IN-BAY, OHIO Put-in-Bay is a sleepy village in early spring, but this year there are special vibes in the air around Lake Erie’s South Bass Island. While the popular tourism destination struggled last year because of Covid-19 and its restrictions, a positive attitude has permeated the many businesses as they prepare for the 2021 summer season.

Miller Boat Line hoping for better year as 2021 season sets sail

CATAWBA ISLAND - Warm temperatures and good weather are the lifeblood of the Miller Boat Line. Every 20 minutes in the summer ferries full of vehicles and families looking to explore or grab dinner and a drink fill the Miller ferry as it crashes against rocking waves as it heads to South Bass Island. Thanks to some late spring-like temperatures, mostly hovering around 60 degrees this week, Friday s start to the Miller Boat Line season is perfect timing as trips to Middle Bass Island will resume for the service beginning March 26. But a busy spring and summer in 2021 would be a stark contrast to 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench into plans for another popular season for the Miller Boat Line and Jet Express.
