Waste management truck driver charged in fatal February crash

  KITCHENER The driver of a waste management truck has been charged in a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in February. The crash occurred on Feb. 18 in the area of Tremaine Drive in Kitchener. Police said a 77-year-old woman was crossing Tremaine Crescent and was hit by a waste management vehicle turning left into the intersection. She died shortly after the crash. On Monday, police said a 43-year-old Cambridge man was charged with dangerous operation causing death and criminal negligence causing death. He s scheduled to appear in court on June 11.

Family of victim speaks out after two fatal waste truck crashes in Kitchener

  KITCHENER After two crashes involving waste trucks in Kitchener resulted in two pedestrians dying, one of the victims family is calling for change. Her son, Benjamin, is reminded of his mother s optimistic, loving, and caring nature every time he hears a certain song. A Beautiful Morning by The Rascals was her favourite song, he said. Every time I hear it I want to be happy, but it s not happy yet. My mom was a light. Everybody around her was affected by her in a positive way. Same time of day, coming from around the corner, same age group, he said. It was uncanny how similar they were.

Waste collection company reviewing operations following two fatal crashes in Kitchener

  KITCHENER Miller Waste Systems is reviewing its operating and safety protocols after two fatal crashes involving pedestrians. Both crashes happened in Kitchener. The first was in July and the second was last week. Company President Denis Goulet said they ve operated similar vehicles throughout Ontario for more than 40 years and have never had a pedestrian fatality. However, he said having two in a matter of months is deeply concerning. We understand that the victims’ families, friends, loved ones, and members of the Waterloo Region community are also seeking answers for how and why these tragedies occurred, the statement from Goulet said in part. We are also seeking answers for how and why these tragedies occurred. We are still acquiring information about both accidents and continue to cooperate with the police on both investigations.
