Traditionally the event has been held on a specifically groomed and marked trail around Yorkton, measuring between 100 and 150 kilometers, and would also include a breakfast, midpoint lunch, and awards banquet. However due to the ongoing pandemic, the large gathering aspect is not possible, leading to a new twist for 2021.
Instead, this year those wishing to take part are eligible to ride from wherever they might be located across Saskatchewan, and for whatever distance works best for them, any time between Feb. 15 and 27.
Registrants raising the minimum pledge are also eligible to receive rider packs, including gift cards for fuel and meals among other things. Packs can be delivered via mail or picked up at one of the various SaskAbilities
“It’s all going to depend on what happens with restrictions, so we can’t give any guarantees what next year’s going to look like,” Carey said. “It might look a little different than it has in the past, but we will hope to make it as normal a season as possible, and it will just depend on where restrictions are at by that time.”
Local area veteran of the circuit, Todd Baptiste, said while it’s certainly great to see a potential return to competition ahead, it may remain a bit more of a cautious optimism until closer to the summer.
