YOUNGSTOWN Many who knew the Most Rev. David Bonnar for his years of dedicated service with the Diocese of Pittsburgh joined him Tuesday to celebrate his ordination as sixth bishop of the Diocese of Youngstown.
While some people gathered outside St. Columba Cathedral to welcome Bonnar as their new bishop, others by invitation were seated inside to watch the man many have known for years begin a new chapter in his life.
Bonnar, 58, had served many parishes during his time with the Diocese of Pittsburgh and those who were members of those churches say he will bring enthusiasm and passion to his new job.

YOUNGSTOWN Saying it was “the biggest moment in his life, “ the Most Rev. David Bonnar is ready to begin serving as the new bishop of the Diocese of Youngstown following his installation and ordination Tuesday at St. Columba Cathedral.
After the two-hour ceremony and ritual, Bonnar met with family, friends and guests in attendance, which was limited to invitation only due to the viral outbreak.

YOUNGSTOWN The Mass of Ordination and Installation for the Rev. David J. Bonnar as the sixth bishop of the Diocese of Youngstown will take place 2 p.m. today at St. Columba Cathedral.
On Nov. 17, Pope Francis appointed Bonnar of the Diocese of Pittsburgh as the sixth bishop of Youngstown. Bonnar is replacing Bishop George Murry, who died in June after battling leukemia.
Bonnar, 58, was born in Pittsburgh. and was ordained to the priesthood on July 23, 1988. He is presently pastor of St. Aidan Parish in Wexford, Pa.
