Minnesota s attorney general filed paperwork Friday asking that Derek Chauvin be given a more severe prison sentence in the killing of George Floyd, arguing that the former Minneapolis police officer inflicted torturous deadly methods as Floyd pleaded for his life.
Chauvin, who is scheduled to be sentenced in June for second-degree murder and other charges, abused his power as a police officer in full view of the public and while Floyd was handcuffed and crying out for his mother, state Attorney General Keith Ellison said in a legal brief filed in Minnesota s Hennepin County District Court.
Derek Chauvin, who was convicted on murder and manslaughter charges, deserved a more severe sentence after he inflicted "gratuitous pain" on George Floyd last year, argued Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison (D).

A Minneapolis man has pleaded guilty to shooting his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, who came to their house to drop off children for a visit.
Rodney Velho, 45, pleaded guilty to intentional second-degree murder Monday in Hennepin County District Court. Velho shot and killed Kevin Logan Jr., 31, on April 19, 2020.
According to the criminal complaint, Velho was celebrating his girlfriend’s birthday at her house at the 11800 block of 80th Avenue in Maple Grove.

Derek Chauvin is scheduled for sentencing on June 16 for the murder of George Floyd late last spring, while juror identities will remain secret for six more months, a judge ordered Friday.
The fired Minneapolis police officer was convicted Tuesday of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-manslaughter in connection with Floyd s death as he was pinned to the pavement under Chauvin s knee for more than nine minutes on May 25 at 38th and Chicago. Sentencing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Hennepin County District Court.
Also Friday, Judge Peter Cahill ordered that the jurors identities remained under seal for at least six more months, along with the list of prospective jurors, juror questionnaires and the unredacted verdict forms containing the foreperson s signature.
